| RIF SHREW |
Shrew is the sort of cow you build a herd around. She is a magnificent cow with excellent feet, udder, depth of body and temperament. I just wish she would have more heifer calves. She has a lovely bull calf by Zeus at foot (Cruiser) and is mated back to Zeus for next season. |
| HPK SHIRAZ |
One of our first home-bred cows and a very consistent performer. All of her heifer calves have been retained in the herd and all of her bull calves sold for breeding. I wish we had lots more just like her!
This year she has produced a gorgeous red polled bull calf
by Refstrup Tabias (Cabernet). |
| HPK SOPHISTICATE |
This cow arrived here in utero from Wagga Wagga. She is an incredibly long, square cow who milks exceptionally well. Her last three calves have been heifers and all have been retained in the herd. |
| RIF THEBE |
Thebe is a daughter of RIF Jubantonto, a cow we purchased from Mrs. Faed. She was one of the matriarchs of our herd, having 2 daughters and several grand-daughters retained. Thebe is very well muscled and quiet – traits she passes on to her offspring. Her 2004 bull calf (Zebulon) was the standout of his year. He is the sire of Bindi. This year she has a fabulous Milou heifer calf at foot (Colby). |
| PALMDALE MELODY |
Melody was purchased from Palmdale in 2003. She has a very impressive bull calf at foot by Bruangil Park Warlord (Concerto) and has been mated to Warlord again this year. |
| HPK VERITY |
Verity is the other Jubantonto daughter. Verity’s figures belie her ability to produce a quality calf each year. This year she has a lovely polled heifer calf at foot by Myahgah Lumberjack (Charity). We are so impressed with her that we mated Verity to Lumberjack again this year. |
| HPK WATTLE |
Wattle is a Jubantonto grand-daughter, out of RIF Thebe. She is turning out to be a lovely cow. She has so far produced a bull sold for breeding and three beautiful heifers. Her heifer calf this year is by Goldenview Krugerrand (Celeste) and she is a ripper! |
| HPK WEDDING BELLE |
Wedding Belle is out of one of our Kelterco cows by Goldenview Krugerrand. She has great milking ability, raising one of the heaviest calves each year. She is also very quiet, a trait she passes on to her offspring.
She has a lovely French Pure heifer calf at foot this year
by Sundowner Fancy (Camille). |
| HPK WISH |
Wish is a good steady cow. She is lacking in milk, so produces one of the lighter calves each year at weaning, but they grow out into the type of animals we like.
I helped Wish calve this year - a beautiful Refstrup Tabias
heifer calf named Cathryn (after me...). |
| NAC X-QUISITE |
X-quisite was bought from Narrogin Agricultural College in 2002, as a calf at foot. This year she produced our first home-bred Ionesco heifer (Coquette). |
| SHANNALEA KIRSTY X13 |
Kirsty was bought in 2006 from the Shannalea stud. She is a long, deep cow and produced a lovely heifer calf for us last year. Unfortunately, she lost her calf this year. She is now mated to Zeus, which should be a good joining. |
| HPK YASMIN |
Yasmin is a polled Refstrup Tabias daughter out of Shiraz. She epitomises the type of female we are trying to produce. This year she has a beautiful polled heifer calf at foot by Bruangil Park Zanadu (Carina - daughter Karina couldn't wait any longer)! She was remated to Zanadu this year. |
| HPK YVETTE |
Yvette’s docility figure is not indicative of her nature and will hopefully improve as her calves are recorded. This year she has a lovely curly coated Navarin bull calf at foot (Corvette), who is very quiet. She has been mated to Bruangil Park Zanadu (a polled Ionesco son) this year. |
| HPK YOHANNA |
Yohanna is a Sundowner Fancy daughter who did a great job last year with her first heifer calf (Bonnie). She is turning out to be a quiet achiever. This year she has produced a gorgeous polled Wulfs Guardian heifer (Can-Can). She was mated to Bruangil Park Warlord again this year, in the hope of producing another Bonnie! |
| HPK ZEPHYR |
Zephyr is Shrew’s only heifer calf. She calved herself for the first time
in August 2006, and had a lovely black polled bull calf (Bonanza). I hold out high hopes that she will become as good a breeder as her mother. |
| HPK ZALI |
Zali was Wedding Belle’s first calf. She calved for the first time
in August 2006, and produced my favourite calf out of last year’s crop – a cheeky little black minx named Bindi. She’s an absolute corker! |
| HPK ZENOBIA |
Zenobia produced her first calf in late 2006. She is mated to Bruangil Park Australis, a French Pure bull by Dauphin. |
| HPK ZOE |
Zoe was the first Sophisticate heifer to calve. Zoe and Zephyr are both by Bedell Maurice, an English bull that we have the only semen of in Australia. This year we mated her to BPL Australis, so her calf will be French Pure. |
| PALMDALE SASSY |
We bought Sassy from the Palmdale Stud in 2006. We wanted an Ionesco
heifer as we'd only managed to produce 4 Ionesco bulls. This
year she has had her first calf - a very low birth
weight black bull by Wulfs Guardian
(Casanova). |
| PALMDALE SHEBA |
We bought Sheba from the Palmdale Stud in 2006. She is by the French sire, Mas du Clo. Karina has claimed her, as Alyssa has her black polled namesake. She has a lovely black polled heifer calf at foot (Cheeky) and has been mated this year to Chaz First Choice – very much looking forward to that calf! |
| HPK ALYSSA |
Alyssa is obviously named after our daughter Alyssa. She had to be the year’s best heifer. Unfortunately, she lost her first calf (I’m not sure which Alyssa was the most upset). She is in calf to our black polled bull Zeus for next year. |
| HPK AISHA |
Aisha is one of Wish’s heifers. She looks just like her dam – short and solid with excellent feet. I just hope she has a little more milk…
She has a gorgeous black polled Touchdown heifer at foot
(Cha-Cha) who will definitely have more milk! |
| HPK ALLY |
Ally is named after a friend’s daughter in the US, so she had to be a good heifer. She is by English sire Aldwyck Jake. Her bull calf Cheerio is very well muscled. She was mated to Zeus this year. |
| HPK ACACIA |
Acacia is Wattle’s first heifer. She has a very solid bull calf at foot by Ajax (Casey) and was mated to Zeus this year. |
| HPK APHRODITE |
Aphrodite is one of Sophisticate’s heifer calves. She will grow into a big long cow like her mother. She has a heifer calf at foot by Ajax (Cherub) and was mated to Zeus this year. |
| HPK ANNE BOLEYN |
Alyssa named Anne Boleyn – she’s out of Queenie and Alyssa is a mad keen history buff. I only hope she doesn’t meet the same fate as her namesake and have her head removed! So far, she’s developing very nicely… |
| HPK BONNIE |
Bonnie is a magnificent heifer calf by Bruangil Park Warlord, out of our Sundowner Fancy daughter, Yohanna. She is in calf to ROMN Justice, which is very exciting! |
| HPK BLUSH |
This heifer is by Palmdale Phantom, out of Wish. She is very inquisitive and the first to show up in pursuit of hay! She is in calf to the homozygous black and polled sire LKCC Tomahawks Touchdown – another one I’m looking forward to. |
| TAN BREANNA |
Breanna was bought from the Corangamite stud in early 2007. She is a polled red heifer by DVFC Cookie Monster and has a wonderful temperament. She is in calf to ROMN Justice – should be an excellent mating! |
| HPK BELLA |
This lovely heifer is by Shannalea Zodiac (an Ionesco son) out of Shannalea Kirsty X13. She is quite pale, so easy to spot in the paddock. She is in calf to Tomahawks Touchdown – another black polled calf on the way! |
| HPK BONITA |
This heifer is one of my favourites – she is by Palmdale Phantom out of Sophisticate. We didn’t mate her this year, but will do so early next season. |
| HPK BINDI |
This heifer was my favourite calf last year. She is black and polled, and is just a cheeky girl! She follows you about – impossible to photograph as she’s always walking towards you! She is by Zebulon, out of Zali. She will be mated for the first time next year. |
